The National Food Administration issues fines because they assess that a slaughterhouse has not complied with the law - and has not rectified deficiencies despite remarks.

The problems at Ello in Lammhult have included hygiene problems and food safety, such as faeces on animal bodies and unclean knives.

- Yes, faeces should never be on the carcasses, and that is why I have been appointed CEO to work systematically.

We have actually managed to extinguish these, so we actually have no open injunctions with fines, says Jonas Malmsten, CEO of Ello in Lammhult.

But for several years you have had serious hygiene problems.

You will receive an injunction for not succeeding in remedying these shortcomings.

- What you say is exactly right.

The problem has been that we have had problems with clear leadership and the infrastructure in place.

But that was also why I was recruited, to make sure this comes into place.

Continued confidence from Krav

Assignment review has revealed that Kravslakterier has more remarks and shortcomings in terms of hygiene and food safety than slaughterhouses without certification.

Of a total of 134 injunctions over the past three years, 90 have gone to Kravslakterier.

Ello in Lammhult Krav was certified on March 26, 2020. By then, it had only been nine days since a new fine order was issued by the National Food Administration - again on hygiene problems.

There they wrote, among other things, that "the operator wiped a contaminated knife on the shirt that was used directly in the slaughter" and that "staff did not wash their hands when their hands were contaminated."

Despite this, their application was approved by Krav.

Why do you still have confidence in them?

- Because as long as the companies take measures and ensure that the measures are taken and that they make improvements, and as long as the National Food Administration still allows them to continue operations, then we mean that they are working to try to improve, says Krav's CEO Anita Falkenek .

But you get an injunction because you have not remedied the shortcomings that you have discovered.

- Yes, and that is unfortunate, says Anita Falkenek.
