Delmenhorst (dpa / lni) - A 60-year-old man hit the end of a traffic jam with his trailer truck on Autobahn 1 and was seriously injured.
The accident on Wednesday afternoon triggered another crash - and finally there were four injured, as the police announced.
The motorway is expected to be fully closed around the accident site until 10 p.m.
The truck hit a truck loaded with steel rollers between the junction of Lohne-Dinklage and Holdorf, which was then pushed to the left onto the overtaking lane.
Because of the accident, an 18-year-old car driver turned left onto the overtaking lane and hit the central barrier.
Another 18-year-old woman driving behind her on the overtaking lane hit the car.
The 60-year-old truck driver was flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter.
"According to the current state of knowledge, there is no danger to life," it said in the police report.
The 55-year-old driver and the two young drivers were slightly injured and taken to hospitals by ambulance.
All four vehicles were no longer ready to drive.
The 60-year-old is being investigated for negligent bodily harm.
