Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has reaffirmed her position to keep schools and daycare centers open as much as possible during the Corona crisis.

The existing regulations for schoolchildren are tough enough and should not be tightened any further, Schwesig said on Wednesday in NDR Info.

As soon as an incidence value of less than 50 is reached, daycare centers and schools should, in their opinion, have priority when opening the first steps.

Instead, Schwesig called for clear rules for more home office to reduce contacts.

The incidence value is the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

In the federal-state switch on Tuesday evening Schwesig had spoken out vehemently against further tightening for daycare centers and schools.

This caused heated discussions with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), who wanted to take further steps at this point.

The compromise in MV: From Monday onwards, daycare centers and schools in the districts of Vorpommern-Greifswald and Ludwigslust-Parchim are only allowed to offer emergency care, because the seven-day incidence there is over 150.

Emergency care is already in place in the Mecklenburg Lake District district.

In the other three rural districts and in the independent cities of Rostock and Schwerin, however, daycare centers and schools up to grade 6 remain open.

However, parents are asked to leave their children at home if possible.
