Iranian President Hassan Rouhani praised the end of the era of US President Donald Trump, who described him as oppressive and oppressive, and stressed that the policy of maximum pressure that he exercised on his country through sanctions had failed, calling on the administration of the new president, Joe Biden, to return to the nuclear agreement and lift the sanctions on his country.

In a speech delivered today, Wednesday, during the weekly meeting of his government, and broadcast on state television, Rouhani expressed his happiness at the end of the term of Trump, who described him as an oppressor and tyrant, accusing him of practicing terrorism against the Iranian people, as he put it.

In this regard, he said, "Today is the end of another tyrant's era, and today is the last day of his bad rule," considering that the four years he spent in the White House "produced nothing but injustice and corruption and caused problems for his people and the world."

He added that the US president's political career ended today, while the nuclear agreement from which the Trump administration withdrew in 2018 is still in place, considering that the policy of "maximum pressure" he pursued with Iran has completely failed.

"The ball is in the court of the United States now. If Washington returns to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, we will also fully respect our obligations under the agreement," he said.

He also said, "We hope that Biden will return to implementing the law and fulfilling America's obligations and to compensate for Trump's mistakes."

Terms of return

Yesterday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Tehran confirmed on the last day of Trump's presidency, which he described as ominous, that his reckless policy and his maximum pressure had failed to achieve their goals.

Zarif added during his participation in the parliament meeting that his country is not in a hurry to return Washington to the nuclear agreement, indicating that his country will return to the negotiating table with the parties to the signed nuclear agreement if the United States returns to the agreement and lifted the sanctions it imposed on Iran.

In Washington, the candidate for the Director of National Intelligence, "April Haines," said during a session held by the Senate Intelligence Committee to confirm her appointment, that Iran is a destabilizing player and a threat in the region, and that it should not be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon.

Haines added that President-elect Joe Biden has indicated his willingness to return to the agreement with Iran upon its return to abide by it.
