Velbert (dpa) - Rescue workers usually request help from the air, but this time it was the other way around: an ambulance helicopter deliberately cut off the path of an ambulance in Velbert.

The helicopter overtook the car at a low altitude and landed on the street in front of it, reported the fire department in Velbert south of Essen on Wednesday.

The patient's condition on board the helicopter suddenly deteriorated.

While looking for a place to land, the pilot spotted the ambulance with its better treatment options.

Without further ado, the patient was transferred to the ambulance, where his circulation was successfully stabilized.

After half an hour it was transportable again and "Christoph 8" was able to continue the flight from Dortmund to Aachen University Hospital.
