Five people were arrested and taken into police custody on Wednesday as part of the investigation into the illegal New Year's rave party in Brittany which had brought together 2,400 people.

A support committee called for demonstrations in Rennes, as well as in other cities, to demand the release of one of the suspected organizers, who was in pre-trial detention.

"As part of the judicial information followed by the two investigating judges, five people were arrested this morning by the Redon research brigade and placed in police custody," Philippe Astruc, prosecutor, told AFP. of the Republic of Rennes.

Four people already indicted

Four people have already been indicted, including a 22-year-old young man who was detained after the rave party which brought together 2,400 people for New Year's Eve, in Lieuron, a town located about forty kilometers south of Rennes, in full health crisis.

The images of this wild party organized with significant resources in a hangar had toured the planet.

During a press conference on January 5, Philippe Astruc castigated the organization of this giant party which "shocked our fellow citizens".

"This is certainly an irresponsible behavior, deeply asocial and which is criminally punishable and will be punished", while "most of our fellow citizens made the effort of a Christmas Eve in a small committee".

To respond to criticism of a possible "passivity" of the public authorities and the police, the prosecutor recalled that "when the gathering was dispersed 1,645 people, or two thirds of the participants, were fined".

A call to demonstrate this Saturday

In an email sent to AFP on Wednesday, the "support committee for the Maskarade in Rennes and the surrounding area" denounced the new arrests on Wednesday.

"This morning various places were searched, people arrested and material seized. It is too much! It is a new affront to a youth first abandoned and then criminalized by a whole political class who are looking for a scapegoat to make people forget his incompetence in the management of the health crisis ", according to this text.

This committee launches a call to demonstrate "to demand the release of Tristan and justice for Steve, this Saturday January 23 in Rennes, as well as in other cities on the initiative of local committees (Tours, Bordeaux, Dijon, Lille .. .) ".
