Landau (dpa / lrs) - The Reptilium in Landau / Pfalz has averted bankruptcy for the time being.

"In the meantime we have received the short-time work allowance for November and December, and the advance payment of the December aid has been received," said boss Uwe Wünstel on Wednesday.

"You can see light again at the end of the tunnel - even if we don't yet know how long it is," he said.

Because of Corona, the zoos and zoos in Rhineland-Palatinate have been closed since November.

There is a lack of income.

Even in the first lockdown in the previous spring, the facilities had to remain closed for weeks.

"There are still almost 40,000 euros outstanding, but with the payments we have received, we can calmly contest February - and when the rest comes, then March too," said Wünstel.

Donations of food and money would also ensure that the reptile could continue the costs of food and the maintenance of the animal population without any problems.

"So things are looking good again here - at least until further notice," emphasized the zoo boss.

The reptile has 19 employees and 1200 animals, including crocodiles and snakes.
