Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate will meet next week for the officially last plenum of this electoral period.

The Parliament's Council of Elders decided on Wednesday to schedule the session for Thursday and Friday next week.

At the beginning of the deliberations of the Council of Elders, Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) informed the parliamentary group leaders about yesterday's federal-state deliberations to contain the corona pandemic.

In addition to a current debate, the agenda includes the planned adoption of the state law on local public transport, the amendment of the state gaming law and the consultation on the final report of the study commission on the corona pandemic.

The Council of Elders and the State Parliament's Health Committee want to continue to meet by the end of the electoral period on May 17, and thus beyond the state election on March 14.

For this purpose, seven meetings of the council of elders and three meetings of the health committee were agreed.

"Depending on the pandemic, further meetings of committees or special sessions of the state parliament can of course be called at any time on the basis of the rules of procedure," said state parliament President Hendrik Hering (SPD).

The constituent session of the new state parliament is planned for May 18.

According to the previous planning, this will take place for the first time in the newly renovated state parliament building in the historic Deutschhaus on the banks of the Rhine.
