Hanover / Bremen (dpa / lni) - According to the Lower Saxony Chamber of Pharmacists, there were no major difficulties with the free issue of FFP2 masks to people with an increased corona risk.

At the beginning of the distribution in mid-December, however, the rush was great, said the spokeswoman Panagiota Fyssa.

"In some pharmacies, all protective masks in stock were handed in on the first morning."

According to Fyssa, there was no cause for concern, because pharmacists could reorder additional masks from pharmaceutical wholesalers or the manufacturer.

Accordingly, those entitled had enough time until January 6, 2021 to pick up three free FFP2 masks from a pharmacy.

In order to safely care for all patients, some companies organized separate delivery times or used different entrances, as the spokeswoman for the Chamber of Pharmacists reported.

"Others have given the masks through windows or even outside."

In the meantime, risk patients need a certificate of entitlement from their health insurance company.

You can get six FFP2 masks by the end of February - for an additional payment of two euros.

In the federal state of Bremen, people over the age of 65 could receive ten FFP2 masks free of charge from November 13th.

The masks came from the state of Bremen.

A total of around 1.7 million pieces were distributed, as the managing director of the Bremen Chamber of Pharmacists, Isabel Justus, said.

"The masks were sent to the pharmacies in stages, so that not all pharmacies always had enough protective masks available," says Justus.

"On the first few days there was actually a big rush with queues in front of the pharmacies."

In the course of time, however, this has established itself.

Even at the start of the nationwide campaign, in which three free FFP2 masks could be picked up in pharmacies from mid-December, stocks were not sufficient everywhere at the beginning.

According to Justus, there were queues in front of some Bremen pharmacies on the start day.

At the start of the current campaign, in which entitled persons receive authorization certificates for six FFP2 masks from their health insurance company and pay a deductible of two euros, there are no difficulties in Bremen according to the information.

According to the Chamber of Pharmacists, the delivery is very orderly, the pharmacies have enough masks in stock.
