The Israeli "Peace Now" anti-settlement organization announced, Tuesday night - Wednesday, that, on the eve of the swearing-in of US President-elect Joe Biden, tenders to build more than 2,500 new settlement housing units in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The human rights organization said in a statement that the government proposed, last Tuesday, tenders to build 2572 new housing units: 2112 of them in settlements located in the West Bank and 460 in East Jerusalem, noting that these units are in addition to about 800 settlement housing units that the Israeli authorities agreed on Sunday to Build it.

Last Sunday, Israel gave the green light to build 780 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank, in a move condemned by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, calling on the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to return to this decision that "undermines the two-state solution."

In its statement, Peace Now considered that the Netanyahu government is trying to "expand the settlements as much as possible until the last minutes before changing the administration in Washington."

She added that "Netanyahu sends the next president (Joe Biden) a message that he does not intend to give the new chapter in relations between the United States and Israel any grace period," nor is he trying to "resolve the conflict with the Palestinians."

Biden had indicated that his administration would reactivate Washington's previous policy in its opposition to settlement activity and expansion.

The Democratic candidate for the State Department, Anthony Blinken, said that the new US administration will not cancel Trump's historic recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, pointing out that "the two-state solution is the only way to guarantee Israel's future as a democratic Jewish state, and to grant the Palestinians a state."
