Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Saarland is demanding a “binding plan” from politicians for the period after the lockdown.

A “safe and fair opening strategy” is needed, such as a staggered restart of trade, gastronomy and the leisure and cultural industries, said IHK Managing Director Frank Thomé on Wednesday.

Such a concept would also increase the acceptance of the political measures and give companies planning security.

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce assessed the resolutions of the federal and state governments to extend the lockdown until February 14th as “moderate and targeted”.

"Due to the development of the infection process and the uncertainty regarding the virus mutations, a renewed extension of the lockdown was unfortunately inevitable," it said in a message.

However, it must now be an “urgent goal” to show parts of the economy “sustainable prospects for a successful restart”.

As a result of the lockdown, many companies in the Saar economy have already reached an economically existential situation.
