Iceland, future opponents of France in the main round of the Handball World Cup in Egypt, almost lost all hope of qualifying for the quarter-finals by losing to Switzerland, the surprise team of the tournament, 20-18 Wednesday in the suburbs of Cairo.

Coach Gudmundur Gudmundsson's team ran into Swiss goalkeeper Nikola Portner (13 saves) and fell into the trap of a game without rhythm and very closed.

Andy Schmid's Switzerland (6 goals) retains a small chance of qualifying.
