The resort of Calgary (Canada) will ultimately not be able to resume Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Worlds events, initially scheduled in China, due to the health crisis, the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced on Wednesday.

China, which was to host from February 18 to 28, 2021 in Yanqing, on the site of the 2022 Beijing Winter Games, the World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships, threw in the towel in December for the organization of this biennial event because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Calgary then volunteered to host the slopestyle, big air, half pipe, mogul and freestyle skiing events.

But the Canadian station must also drop out "because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the associated challenges in obtaining necessary health-related clearances," FIS wrote in a statement.

The FIS says it continues to look for fallback solutions.

The skicross and snowboardcross events have been rescheduled in Idre Fjäll (Sweden) from February 11 to 13.
