The Korean presidential office has announced that it will appoint President Chung Eui-yong as a new foreign minister to replace Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa.

This was revealed by the Korean presidential office at a press conference earlier.

Mr. Chung, who will be appointed as the new foreign minister, is 74 years old from a diplomat who has served as a minister to the United States.

Since the inauguration of the Moon Jae-in administration, he has served as the head of the National Security Office, which is in charge of diplomatic and security command towers at Cheong Wa Dae, and retired in July last year.

As President Mun, Mr. Chung, who is experienced and trusted, will replace Foreign Minister Kang, who had been in office for about 3 years and 7 months, before the next administration of the US ally, Joe Biden, will be inaugurated on the 20th. It seems that the aim is to rebuild the relationship between the United States and South Korea and improve the relationship between North and South Korea.
