Again and again there were isolated reports of reinfections with the coronavirus, now a man in Germany has died after a renewed infection of Sars-Cov-2.

The State Health Office confirmed this on Wednesday evening in Stuttgart.

First, the research network of WDR, NDR and "Süddeutscher Zeitung" reported on it.

The man had lived in the Freudenstadt district, said the state health office.

In April 2020, a corona infection was detected in him for the first time.

At the end of December 2020, the man was infected again, which was found in early January.

"The patient later died of Covid-19 pneumonia (pneumonia) and sepsis with multiple organ failure."

According to the "Süddeutscher Zeitung", the dead is a 73-year-old from the Freudenstadt district.

Stefan Brockmann, who heads the health protection and epidemiology department at the state health office, told the dpa news agency that there was no indication that he had one of the new virus variants.

The Freudenstadt district was the first district in Germany in which the virus mutation discovered in Great Britain appeared.

The man had previous illnesses, said Brockmann.

It is likely that he did not develop strong immunity when he was first infected.

The chance that a person will be infected with the corona virus a second time is very low so far.

There are isolated cases in which the patients did not develop enough antibodies the first time.

According to the report by WDR, NDR and "Süddeutscher Zeitung", this is likely to be only the third known death worldwide after a corona reinfection.

In October, an 89-year-old Dutch woman died, but she was immunocompromised.

In December, an Israeli newspaper reported that a 74-year-old resident of an old people's home there became infected again after an initial infection in August and died, although he had tested negative three times in between.
