Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In January, the judiciary and police in North Rhine-Westphalia wrote out the 27,300 arrest warrants affected for a search.

These were 6.2 percent fewer arrest warrants than last September, said the NRW Ministry of Justice.

These included 290 arrest warrants for murder, 300 for manslaughter and 530 for sex crimes (as of January 11).

NRW Minister of Justice Peter Biesenbach (CDU) rejected allegations of the opposition that security in NRW was not in good shape on Wednesday in the legal committee of the state parliament as nonsense.

For example, arrest warrants for murder remained in force if the perpetrators were deported after serving the majority of the sentence.

The remainder of the sentence was suspended and the arrest warrant was only active to prevent the murderer from returning to the country.

Because murder is not statute-barred, a number of arrest warrants should also apply to perpetrators who have long been dead.

In the case of minor offenses, it is also not necessary in many cases to actively pursue enforcement.

If, for example, the extradition from abroad takes longer than the expected prison sentence, the perpetrator would even be entitled to compensation.

An international search is therefore not useful in many cases.

A large part of the arrest warrants are also about replacement custodial sentences, i.e. unpaid fines.
