Hanau (dpa / lhe) - A World War II bomb was discovered on the site of a former barracks in Hanau on Tuesday.

Since the 50-kilogram explosive device is equipped with a long-term detonator, it must be blown up in the evening, the city announced.

Residents had to leave their apartments and houses for safety.

Road and rail traffic was temporarily suspended.

How many residents are affected by the security precautions was initially not known.
