The National American Football League (NFL) announced Tuesday its team of referees for the next Super Bowl, with among them Sarah Thomas, the first woman to officiate at this annual high mass of North American sport.

In 2015, Sarah Thomas had already become the first full-time female referee in the NFL, before becoming in 2019 the first female to officiate in a playoff game.

"Sarah Thomas is making history once again," said Troy Vincent Sr., a senior NFL official, who touts her "elite performance" and "commitment to excellence."

The 55th Super Bowl will be held in Tampa, Florida on February 7.

Defending champions the Kansas City Chiefs are running for their own succession, and will face the Buffalo Bills in the conference final on Sunday for a Super Bowl spot.

In the other conference final, the Green Bay Packers will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers led by superstar quarterback Tom Brady.
