Trump imposed restrictions at the start of the pandemic to slow the spread of the coronavirus in the United States

.

They prevented most people without American citizenship or residency from traveling to the United States from affected regions.

The

restrictions end on January 26

, when a new requirement

goes

into effect that all

international travelers can enter the United States if they get a negative virus test result within three days of flying

.

Restrictions instead maintained against China and Iran due to "their lack of transparency and their lack of cooperation with the United States so far in the fight against the pandemic".

, lifting restrictions on commercial flights from the European Union, the UK and Brazil,

will be overruled by president-elect Joe Biden

.

The measure is expected to take effect on January 26, but President Biden, who will take office on January 20 at 12 noon, will cancel it.



"At a time when the pandemic is worsening and variants of the virus are spreading, this is no time to lift restrictions on flights from abroad," tweeted Jen Psaki, future White House Communications Officer with Biden, commenting on the decision by Trump.

"On the advice of our health experts, - added Psaki - the Administration does not intend to lift these restrictions on January 26, but rather intends to strengthen public health measures regarding international travel to further contain the spread of Covid-19", he the spokesperson concluded.



On the advice of our medical team, the Administration does not intend to lift these restrictions on 1/26.

In fact, we plan to strengthen public health measures around international travel in order to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
