Berlin / Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The Brandenburgers must be prepared for an extension of the hard lockdown to contain the corona virus.

Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) said on Tuesday after the federal-state consultations that the lockdown, which has been in force since January 9, should be extended to February 14.

The heads of government of the federal states had agreed with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

The cabinet will probably discuss this on Thursday, said Woidke.

On Wednesday, the head of government wants to inform the state parliament in a special session about the decisions.

This means that shops except for everyday needs, as well as cinemas, theaters and restaurants - with the exception of items for daily needs - remain closed for the time being. Schools and kindergartens are also to remain closed in principle, or the requirement for attendance for students to be suspended, according to the decision of the Bund-Länder round. In Brandenburg, there have been exceptions for final classes and special needs schools.
