Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in Rhineland-Palatinate fell to 100.4 on Tuesday.

A week ago, that seven-day incidence was 132.3.

This means that the rate of infection has slowed significantly since the beginning of the year - on December 23, there were 163.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Across Germany it was 131.5 on Tuesday.

The health authorities registered 566 new corona infections on Tuesday, as the state investigation office further announced.

The total number since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 86,090 (as of 2:10 p.m.).

Accordingly, 14,562 people in the country are currently infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

The number of patients who died with or from Covid-19 rose by 41 to 2,145 within 24 hours.

Within one day, 39 people suffering from Covid-19 had to be taken to hospital in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Of 189 Covid-19 patients currently being treated in intensive care units, 110 patients have to be ventilated, according to data from the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi) on Tuesday.

The highest seven-day incidence in Rhineland-Palatinate was on Tuesday in Ludwigshafen with 183.5.

This is followed by Worms (171.2), the Rhein-Hunsrück district (153.2), the Südliche Weinstrasse district (143.0) and the Bad Kreuznach district (137.7).

Two municipalities are below the incidence threshold of 50: the district of Trier-Saarburg (47.5) and the city of Zweibrücken (40.9).
