Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin volunteers who are involved in times of the corona pandemic are to be brought into focus with an online project on the engagement portal “citizen active”.

To this end, the Senate Chancellery is promoting the “Volunteers of Berlin” campaign, which will be used to portray 15 volunteers in photos and videos in the coming weeks, as the authority announced on Tuesday.

We will introduce volunteers who, for example, run a beekeeping in a refugee accommodation in Köpenick, manage gardening projects or support the queer scene.

Queer describes people who do not identify with the heterosexual gender image.

The campaign is not only intended to honor the work of the volunteers, but also to encourage them to follow suit.

"The committed show what is possible despite many corona-related restrictions and keep our city together in these difficult times," emphasized Sawsan Chebli (SPD), State Secretary for Civic Engagement.

Little by little, the stories of the volunteers are to be published on the “bürgeraktiv” platform.

Interested parties can also register for voluntary work on the portal or find out more about civic engagement.
