Berlin (dpa) - The interest group Allianz pro Schiene sees the resolutions made by the federal and state governments for rail and local public transport as positive.

"More buses and trains - just like the mask requirement, this increases the security for all users of public transport," said the association's managing director Dirk Flege on Tuesday evening.

"It is now important, however, that this mask requirement is also effectively controlled."

In order to expand the offer, the companies would also need financial support.

"Nobody who is interested in strong public transport in Germany can want the existence of public transport providers to be endangered," said Flege.

On Tuesday, the federal and state governments agreed on a stricter mask requirement on buses and trains. In the future, so-called surgical masks or mouth-nose covers with the standards KN95 / N95 or FFP2 will have to be worn there. In order to ensure more space and distance in the vehicles, there should also be “additional means of transport used”, according to the resolution.
