Since the spring of last year, passengers have only been let through the back doors of Östgötatrafiken's buses.

Mattias Näsström, traffic operations manager at Östgötatrafiken, says that this may be one of the reasons why more and more people have tried cheating.

- You could have been a little more anonymous and been able to sneak on and off the buses, says Mattias Näsström.

According to Mattias Näsström, it has previously been known that cheating often occurs on the trams in Norrköping.

At Östgötapendeln, on the other hand, cheating is not a major problem at present, says Näsström.

However, he says that it occurs there as well.

Less revenue

Around sixty percent of Östgötatrafiken's revenue is from tax money from the region and the remaining forty percent is from ticket purchases.

According to Näsström, they have lost part of their income precisely because fewer people use public transport today and that more and more cheaters.

To reduce the number of cheaters, Mattias Näsström says that Östgötatrafiken has had to change its tactics when it comes to ticket controls now during the pandemic and now they must have ticket controls as usual.

- The region probably has other holes to put the money in, so therefore we must make sure that those who travel with us pay for their trip simply.

That's how it is connected and they probably understand most people, says Mattias Näsström.
