The match never ends: on strike since January 8, the employees of the Team decided Tuesday to continue their movement, resulting in the non-publication of the sports newspaper on Wednesday for the 12th day in a row, we have learned from unions and management.

The inter-union SNJ, SNJ-CGT, UFICT-CGT, SGLCE-CGT decided on Tuesday to renew its call to strike for 24 hours at the end of a general assembly.

The daily will therefore not appear on Wednesday, its management confirmed to AFP.

At the origin of the movement, a plan to safeguard employment (PSE) which provides for the elimination of around fifty positions, including 47 of journalists, within the SAS L'Equipe (the daily, the magazine, Vélo Magazine and the weekly France football, in the process of becoming a monthly) which employs 350 people.

At the same time, 12 job creations are planned to strengthen the Internet offer.

The goal is to save 5 million euros and avoid 6 million losses in 2021, in a context of falling paper sales aggravated by the health crisis and the end of sports competitions in the spring.

Faced with the sling, the management proposed on Monday a new alternative to the PSE: an agreement of collective conventional terminations allowing fewer departures, coupled with a collective performance agreement (APC), with elimination of RTT days and cuts in wages.

But "the principle of the APC is rejected by the employees", according to Stéphane Antoine (SNJ-CGT).

Management has also "improved a little the starting conditions" associated with the PSE, "but this does not guarantee the absence of a forced departure," added Antoine.

A new meeting between unions and management is scheduled for Thursday, he said.
