Berlin (dpa) - Theater maker Herbert Fritsch, in his own words, is far from thinking of quitting.

"This cliché of the old heterosexual white man who should now make room has no power over me," he told the Berliner Zeitung in an interview on his 70th birthday on Wednesday.

He does not vacate his place voluntarily and wants to continue.

“I want to fall over in the theater.

I don't want to die in bed, "said Fritsch.

In the conversation he also said that he hoped that one day he would have the opportunity to found a company.

Fritsch - one of the most famous actors, directors and stage designers in the German theater - had worked for a long time at the Volksbühne in Berlin.

At that time the house was still under the management of Frank Castorf.

After his departure, Fritsch also left the theater.

He then worked at the Berlin Schaubühne, where he directed “Amphitryon” with actor Joachim Meyerhoff, among others.

In autumn 2019 it became known that he was also leaving the Schaubühne.

"That was not the right place for the troops and for me," he told the Berliner Zeitung (Wednesday edition).
