As the political center in Washington prepares to install Joe Biden as president of the United States on Wednesday, "racism" and manifestations of support for the theory of the supremacy of the "white race" are escalating in the US military, which some lawmakers consider a dangerous indicator.

According to the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Adam Smith, it is absolutely necessary to support the assumption of the leadership of the Pentagon by the black general Lloyd Austin, so that his rejection from Congress is not a message that black cannot do the job.

US President-elect Joe Biden had nominated General Lloyd Austin to lead the Pentagon, which was considered a major shift in US policy.

Because if his candidacy is approved by Congress, he will be the first black general to occupy this high position.

Stage man

Austin took command of US forces in the Middle East between 2013 and 2016, is a graduate of the prestigious West Point Military Academy, and served more than 40 years in the military, before retiring in 2016.

Biden worked with General Austin under Barack Obama, when he oversaw the implementation of the former president's decision to withdraw 50,000 US troops from Iraq in 2011.

He currently serves on the board of directors of Rayton Technologies, one of the world's largest manufacturers of aviation and defense equipment.

Earlier, Biden said that Austin was the right man at the right time, and that the United States needed him to put an end to permanent wars, and to ensure that military force was the last option.

Biden added that he had no doubt that Austin would respect the doctrine of civilian command of the Department of Defense.

For his part, Austin pledged to work to strengthen the US alliances in Asia and Europe, and said the United States would be stronger when it worked with its allies.

A special exception

but Congress may reject the man's nomination;

Because he is retired, he must be granted a special exception to hold a ministerial position.

The Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee urged Democratic lawmakers to vote with the exception of General Lloyd Austin from the retirement requirement, so that he can serve as defense secretary in the Biden administration.

Adam Smith warned that there is disturbing evidence of sympathy in the army with the ideology of the supremacy of the white race, as he put it.

He said Austen’s failure to confirm could send a dangerous message that Congress does not see any qualification for an African American to take over the Department of Defense, despite his having all the qualifications.
