Leinfelden-Echterdingen (dpa) - If the beard has the span of a double bed, a protective mask can be a problem.

Not so for Jürgen Burkhardt, the passionate beard bearer and multiple world and European champion.

"For everyday use, I had a mask made by a tailor," the 63-year-old from Leinfelden-Echterdingen near Stuttgart told the German press agency.

"But even with a normal FFP mask this is actually not a problem, because I can clamp the long pegs on the sides between the rubbers."

At first he tried to use transparent visors.

"But they also have their quirks and are always foggy".

FFP masks filter more small particles than other masks and protect those who wear them better.

To do this, they have to be close to the face.

Burkhardt is known for a beard that is rolled up into five-fold spirals on the left and right in competitions, as in the Prussian heyday.

In everyday life, the photographer and designer wears the beard in two large rolls ten centimeters in diameter.
