Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - A man was seriously injured in an industrial accident in a chemical park in Krefeld on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for the chemical park operator Evonik said that he came into contact with a substance that caused him breathing difficulties.

The employee of the Solenis company was treated by the rescue service and then taken to a hospital.

Why the sodium disulfite solution leaked still needs to be clarified, said the Evonik spokeswoman.

The solution is used for products that are used in sewage treatment plants, among other things.

According to the Krefeld fire brigade, there has never been a risk to the population.
