Dresden (dpa / sn) - In voluntary rapid tests at Saxon schools, 23 out of 12 190 students tested positive for the corona virus.

This corresponds to a share of 0.19 percent, announced the Ministry of Education on Tuesday.

Out of 3745 teachers tested, the result was positive in eight, a share of 0.23 percent.

Those concerned had no symptoms of the disease, otherwise they would not have been allowed to take part in the tests, said a spokesman for the ministry.

Since Monday, lessons have started again for around 50,800 pupils in final and pre-graduate classes at 643 schools.

Before that, they could voluntarily undergo a rapid antigen test.

The first results were now available from 403 schools.

However, of the 32 106 boys and girls in those schools, only 12 190 or almost 38 percent had taken up the offer.

He wanted a higher participation, said Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU).

However, the infection rate found is low.

Therefore, it is justified that the pupils can prepare for their final exams in face-to-face classes, observing strict hygiene rules.
