Mainz (dpa) - Mainz head coach Bo Svensson owes his way into the coaching profession to a compatriot and his current boss.

This is what the 41-year-old Dane told the “kicker” (Monday).

«I wanted to study, maybe work as a teacher with young people.

If Kasper Hjulmand had not come and Christian Heidel had not been there, I would probably be a teacher in Denmark, ”said Svensson in the conversation that excerpts were published online on Sunday evening.

Svensson has been the Rheinhessen coach since the beginning of January and used to play as a professional at the club.

Sports director Heidel, who was already responsible for the 05ers at the time, brought the former professional to Mainz as head coach.

In autumn, the new coach was amazed at the strike that ultimately cost Achim Beierlorzer his job at FSV Mainz.

“Before I heard about it at the time, I couldn't imagine that a strike could happen at Mainz 05.

It's the opposite of what I have in my head of the club, ”Svensson said.
