Wolfsburg (AP) - Almost two months after his corona-related myocarditis, ice hockey professional Janik Möser has resumed training.

"His first assignment is fast approaching," announced his club Grizzlys Wolfsburg from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) on Monday.

The 25-year-old defender had passed several tests and medical check-ups in the past week and then received the green light to return to the ice.

«I am overjoyed that I can fully exercise my body again.

The results of the final cardio-MRI examination in Berlin were absolutely okay, ”said Möser.

"My fitness values are already at a very good level again."

The defender tested positive for the corona virus in October and was placed in quarantine.

Before returning to training, the Wolfsburg-based company performed, among other things, a stress ECG on their summer newcomer, which produced significantly different results than the previous examinations in August.

Möser was then examined by a specialist in Berlin who diagnosed an inflammation of the myocardium, which was very likely due to Covid-19 disease.

Möser and the Grizzlys then decided to make this course of the disease public, "in order to raise awareness of the issue," as the Wolfsburg manager Karl-Heinz Fliegauf said.

Because doctors have long assumed that a corona infection can lead to cardiovascular complications even in competitive athletes in the long term.

The DEL worked out a uniform procedure for professionals who return to training after a corona infection.

"We want to minimize the risk and protect the athletes," said Fliegauf.

Möser was not allowed to train between November and January and is now hoping for a quick comeback.

"I'm doing everything to be able to play my first league game for the Grizzlys soon," he said.
