Berlin / Cologne (dpa) - The airline Eurowings and the Verdi union have secured around 2,000 jobs at the Lufthansa subsidiary with a collective bargaining agreement.

The flight attendants and ground workers are foregoing components of their salaries and pensions due to the Corona crisis and are protected against dismissals until March 31, 2022, as both sides reported on Monday.

Verdi wants to work to ensure that as many flight attendants as possible from other Lufthansa subsidiaries find career prospects at Eurowings, said Verdi negotiator Marvin Reschinsky.

«Verdi is already conducting collective bargaining.

We demand financial recognition of previous professional experience in the group. "

Eurowings announced the hiring of 130 flight attendants in order to be able to cover the traditionally busiest travel time in summer.

The positions would be advertised within the Lufthansa Group.

Because of the vaccination advances and the improved tests, demand is expected to revive from summer onwards, which will for the first time lead to full employment in the cabin at Eurowings Germany.

The airline is also relying on catch-up effects and fewer offers from the competition.

Competitors such as Ryanair and Easyjet have left important Eurowings locations such as Düsseldorf and Stuttgart.

The Lufthansa Group also closed the Germanwings and SunExpress Deutschland sub-companies in the wake of the Corona crisis.

The airline Walter, which was traveling on behalf of Eurowings, also left the market.

The cabin crew of the Lufthansa core company is temporarily protected against layoffs with a separate restructuring contract.

According to the union, the ground workers have already accepted the Eurowings agreement, while the flight attendants will vote until January 22nd (Friday).

The agreement applies to the Lufthansa subsidiary's employees in Germany.
