Ulm (dpa) - The police investigations into the case of the allegedly poisoned babies at the Ulm University Hospital have been completed.

However, since an expert report was still pending, the investigations by the public prosecutor could not have been completed, said a spokesman for the Ulm public prosecutor's office on Monday.

According to the spokesman, it is also possible that the case cannot be fully resolved.

The suspicion is directed against two medical and four nursing employees of the clinic.

These deny the allegations.

As a spokeswoman for the clinic said, the four affected nurses are still released with full pay.

In consultation with the public prosecutor's office, the two doctors have now resumed their work in order to be able to continue their medical training.

Several media had previously reported about it.

On the night of December 20, 2019, five premature babies were admitted to the intensive care unit in a life-threatening condition at the Ulm University Clinic for Pediatric Medicine.

Urine samples obtained weeks later had shown morphine poisoning in all five.

After a nurse, who was initially an urgent suspect, was released from custody in early 2019, all six employees on that night shift are investigated.

According to the prosecutor's office, there is an initial suspicion of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm.
