Fulda (dpa / lhe) - A car driver from Thuringia died on Monday in a traffic accident on the A5 near Alsfeld.

The 24-year-old had hit a tractor ahead at high speed, as the Fulda police announced.

Why the man drove so fast was initially unclear.

His car was jammed under the trailer and pulled around 300 meters behind.

The truck was on the left of two lanes when the accident happened between the Alsfeld-West and Alsfeld-East junction (Vogelsbergkreis).

The road was closed for several hours.

In the evening, salvage work was still going on.

Witnesses should report to the Bad Hersfeld police motorway station.
