An Iranian official told Al-Jazeera that there is no communication between Tehran and the administration of US President-elect Joe Biden, and that what was reported by the Israeli media is incorrect.

The official added that Tehran has made it clear that the start is with the Biden administration lifting all sanctions imposed by outgoing President Donald Trump.

He affirmed Iran's commitment to return to all steps to reduce compliance with the nuclear agreement, if the rest of the parties implement all their commitments.

The Israeli Channel 12 said that the Biden administration had informed Israeli officials that it had begun secret and quiet contacts with Iranian officials, to return to the nuclear deal.

Biden has announced that he intends to return to the nuclear agreement signed with Tehran (in addition to Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia), if Iran returns to comply with its requirements.

Biden stressed that Washington - in consultation with its allies - would participate in negotiations and pursue agreements that would tighten and extend nuclear restrictions on Iran, as well as address its missile program.

Tehran has resumed uranium enrichment to a purity of 20%. A confidential report from the International Atomic Energy Agency of the United Nations revealed that Iran has taken another major step, which is preparing to start producing uranium metal.

Iranian officials stress that their recent moves can be easily reversed, if the United States backs down from sanctions, and its increasing stockpiles of enriched uranium can be reduced, or shipped abroad, as was the case after the signing of the nuclear agreement.

The outgoing US President Donald Trump removed his country from the nuclear agreement in 2018, and implemented what was called a policy of "maximum pressure" against Iran, and imposed economic sanctions to force it to negotiate new terms.
