January 18, 2021Amazon announces the opening by 2021 of two new centers in Italy, one for distribution in Novara and one for sorting in Spilamberto (MO), with which the e-commerce giant will create 1,100 permanent jobs by three years that will be added to the 8,500 already created in our country.

The launch of these two new sites, a note reads, will involve a further investment of over 230 million euros which will add to the 5.8 billion already invested by Amazon in Italy in the last ten years.

Amazon, continues the note, continues to expand its logistics network to meet the growing demand from customers, expand the selection of products and support small and medium-sized enterprises that increasingly decide to sell their products using FBA for warehouse and delivery activities.

Vp Amazon Eu Operations: "We have invested significantly in Italy"

"We are proud and excited to expand our logistics network with two new centers in Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna," said Stefano Perego, Vp Amazon Eu Operations.

“Over the past ten years - he continued - we have invested significantly in the country and have hired thousands of talented workers who receive competitive wages and numerous benefits from day one at Amazon.

This new investment represents further proof of our commitment to people and communities in Italy, it will allow us to create 1,100 new permanent jobs and to enhance our delivery network to reach even more customers across the country. .

I also want to underline that to deal with the Covid-19 emergency we have implemented over 150 measures in order to continue offering our services to the community and to protect the health of our employees ".

900 jobs in Agognate within three years

The distribution center located in Agognate, part of the municipality of Novara in Piedmont, will create 900 jobs within three years of opening.

The site, built by Vailog srl (Segro Group), will be equipped with the advanced Amazon Robotics technology with particular attention to the health and well-being of employees.

This technology represents only the latest in a long series of innovations introduced by Amazon to support the work done by warehouse operators and which reduces journey times by bringing the shelves directly to their location.

The new Novara site will play a key role within the company's distribution center network where employees pick, pack and ship orders that will then be delivered to customers.

Center that will be built in Spilamberto, third nationally

The Spilamberto (MO) sorting center will be the second site of this type opened by Amazon in Emilia Romagna after that of Castel San Giovanni, and the third at national level.

Also Vailog srl (Segro Group) is responsible for the construction of the new warehouse in which over 200 new permanent jobs will be created by 2023. The employees of the sorting center will take care of sorting and preparing the parcels, coming from the centers of distribution, for shipping to sorting depots, before final delivery to customers.

The two new centers will be operational by next autumn and will be sustainable structures that will integrate energy saving systems by reducing the environmental footprint.

The energy produced thanks to photovoltaic panels placed on the roof of the warehouse will power both centers, Spilamberto will be equipped with about 720 kW while Novara with 1000 kW.

The buildings are managed by the Bms (Buliding Management System), a system that allows intelligent management of the use and maintenance of the building.

Mobility will also have a sustainability footprint as the car parks will be equipped with charging stations for electric cars and the bicycle transport system will also be encouraged with the creation of new cycle paths to increase city routes.

The properties will have the Brefam (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification with the “Very Good” rating.

To preserve the balance and biodiversity of the territory, green areas and tree-lined spaces will be created adequately designed in harmony with the whole.

The redevelopment of the green areas where the two new sites will rise are planned

In Spilamberto a redevelopment of green areas has been planned, creating environmental paths as part of a landscape project of rebirth to preserve the balance and biodiversity of the areas adjacent to the Rio Secco which involves the planting of native species.

In Novara, the design of the green, designed to integrate with the context, aims to redevelop the rural and wooded area with particular attention to the preservation of flora and fauna: 15 hectares dedicated to greenery with 1,500 shrubs and trees , the redevelopment of 9 hectares of the Agognate wood with 11,000 new trees, together with the use of native species only, represent only part of the initiatives to protect the local ecosystem.

In fact, the project envisages the redevelopment of a section of the banks of the Cavour canal, the renaturalization of its banks in order to guarantee the biodiversity of flora and fauna.

Finally, plant barriers will be created between the natural and urbanized areas to protect the fauna.

These developments are in line with the Climate Pledge, the commitment co-founded and signed last year by Amazon and Global Optimism with the aim of achieving the goals set by the Paris Agreement ten years earlier and achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2040.

“The opening by next autumn of the new Amazon center in Novara, at the logistics hub of Agognate - explains the Mayor of Novara, Alessandro Canelli - is an absolutely positive event for the city and for our territory.

It is above all because the presence of Amazon will bring 900 new jobs (including highly specialized professionals) at a time when the need for new employment is more than ever felt, especially as a consequence of the pandemic that is heavily penalizing the economic fabric. of our country and the territory in which we live.

The establishment of Amazon in Novara also guarantees the presence of a serious operator who will work with innovative technologies and in compliance with environmental sustainability parameters with very high standards ”.

"When we chose to host the new plant in 2018, we knew that the employment generated would be a real breath of fresh air for our community and for a territory, that of Modena, which at the time had not yet recovered the pre-employment levels. - 2008 crisis. This discourse is even more valid today that we are living in an unpredictable historical moment and that in the coming months will see us face post-covid unemployment.

In this time of uncertainty being able to count on these certain jobs will make many of our families feel better and I am satisfied with this, ”commented the mayor of Spilamberto, Umberto Costantini.

The financial reward was € 300, for full-time employees, and a proportionate amount for part-time contracts.
