Sharjah Municipality provides free public parking subscription service for elderly citizens of the emirate

The Sharjah City Municipality announced that the elderly in Sharjah will be exempted from public parking fees by providing free annual subscriptions that allow them to park in all city parking lots at all times, as an initiative that reflects the municipality’s interest in this category in society and providing them with comfort, considering public parking is one of the most important services. That they offer for the public to benefit from when they go to their various destinations in the city.

The Director General of Sharjah City Municipality, Thabet Al-Tarifi, confirmed that this initiative is launched by the municipality as part of its ongoing initiatives to support the elderly and all other groups in society, and to support the emirate’s vision in this field as a model for age-sensitive cities, as the municipality will begin providing these subscriptions virtually through its website in line with its directions Digital and providing its services to the public in an easy and simple way, which saves them time and effort, and strengthens the municipality’s role in supporting the direction of the smiling emirate in digital transformation.

Al-Tarifi clarified that the service of issuing free subscriptions for the elderly will be launched on the municipality’s website, starting from January 19, after all necessary measures have been taken and the number expected to benefit from this service, amounting to 3 thousand beneficiaries, with an estimated value of 7 million dirhams, will be launched, according to a set of conditions that Have been determined.

For his part, Assistant Director General of the Customer Service Sector, Khaled bin Falah Al-Suwaidi, explained that this initiative reflects the municipality’s keenness to contribute to preserving the membership of the Smiling Emirate in the international network of age-sensitive cities, and comes as a continuation of many of the initiatives it had previously launched to pay attention to this category, provide its needs and overcome obstacles before it. It is also keen to implement initiatives and programs that enhance the efforts of the emirate to remain at the forefront of cities that enjoy the quality of life and its residents live in a sustainable environment in which all elements of modern life are integrated according to the highest international standards.

In a related context, Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, director of the Public Parking Department, affirmed that the municipality provides this service to elderly people in the Emirate of Sharjah according to a set of requirements, which are that the applicant must be a citizen of the emirate of 60 years of age or more, and prevent the use of parking spaces for persons with disabilities or parking lots. Reserved for commercial establishments and others, unless he is a beneficiary of the service they provide, and each family will be granted only one subscription for one elderly user if the conditions for granting the subscription are met.

Abu Ghazeen noted that it is possible to apply for the service via the municipality’s website, starting from January 19, by entering the site and choosing smart and electronic services, then services for public parking management, then parking subscriptions for the elderly and completing the rest of the procedures by filling in the data required to issue the subscription, as it is required to provide A copy of the Emirates ID, a copy of the registration summary, and a copy of the vehicle's ownership in the name of the beneficiary or one of his first-degree relatives.
