Koblenz / Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The federal police arrested several people during controls at the borders with France, Luxembourg and Belgium.

In total, more than 2,300 people were checked during the operation in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, the police said on Sunday in Koblenz.

According to their own statements, the officials wanted to prevent unauthorized entry in particular with the controls on Friday and Saturday.

Among other things, they caught a 29-year-old man who was wanted by an arrest warrant due to his deportation.

He came into police custody and will be brought before a judge, a spokesman said.

There was an arrest warrant against a 32-year-old for money laundering and a 21-year-old for being drunk at the wheel.

Both were taken to a correctional facility.

According to the police, a 30-year-old man is said to have tried to smuggle a family of six in a larger car from Belgium on Saturday afternoon.

He was brought before a judge on Sunday and is now at large, a police spokesman said.

The 22-year-old Serbian woman applied for asylum for herself and five children between the ages of nine and fifteen.
