Saturday was calm with a few smaller demonstrations in different parts of the United States.

But authorities have pointed out Sunday as critical, as protests against the incoming Biden government have been planned for several weeks in all US states.

Security around the states' respective congresses is rigorous after supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in the US capital Washington DC last week.

Thousands of soldiers

Texas and Kentucky have closed public buildings to the public.

And in the state of Connecticut, the National Guard has been called in to withstand up to 2,000 protesters if that should be the case.

- We are preparing for anything to happen, says the military Pedro Muniz, but adds that no specific threats have been received.

Washington DC is in full swing preparing for Wednesday's installation.

The central parts of the city were spooky during the weekend when streets were closed and the National Guard positioned itself around the city center.

About 10,000 soldiers from the National Guard are on site and the day before Biden is sworn in, further reinforcements are expected, reports The Washington Post.

- We will be between 22,000 and 25,000, says Major General William J Walker.

Arrested in control

On Saturday, an armed man was arrested during a security check near the Capitol in Washington DC.

The man, from the state of Virginia, was detained after the police found a one-handed weapon with 500 cartridges and a shotgun with ammunition.

In some shady, pro-violence groups, members are urged to stay at home with reference to safety or a perceived risk that they may fall into an authority trap.
