Kiel (AP) - Karlsruher SC celebrated its third win in a row in the 2nd Bundesliga and rudely tore opponent Holstein Kiel out of his DFB Cup frenzy against Bayern Munich.

Four days after the sensational success of Kiel in the penalty shoot-out against the triple winner, the KSC came on Sunday in an entertaining away game to a 3-2 (2-0).

Philip Heise (6th), Marco Thiede (45th + 1) and Robin Bormuth (86th) shot the Baden team to their third success in the new year and into the top third of the table.

Janni Serra (60th / 78th) had equalized for Holstein with his goals five and six this season.

With the second home bankruptcy in a row, Kiel missed temporarily moving back to second place.

Instead, they slipped out of the promotion ranks and are now fourth.

The KSC played bravely from the start.

The quick reward was the earlier lead by Heise's shot.

The northern Germans only woke up after a quarter of an hour.

Fabian Reese (23rd) and Serra (31st) missed the best opportunities to equalize.

Shortly before the break, the next setback for the cup heroes: First, Karlsruhe's Philipp Hofmann (43.) failed with a head on the left post, two minutes later right-back Thiede hit a corner kick.

After the change, the Kiel team increased the pressure again.

Serra with a brace rewarded the race to catch up.

After that, the hosts were closer to the winning goal.

But Karlsruhe's Bormuth (86th) ended all Kiel hopes in the final phase.
