Germany managed the first corona wave with low death rates - but has now been hit hard during the winter.

This is despite closures and strict restrictions.

The death toll has increased fivefold during the second wave.

A total of 46,000 people have now died as a result of Covid 19.

Christoffer Wendick has visited eastern Germany, which is the hardest hit part of the country - but also the part where denial of the pandemic is most widespread.
