The Italian Marta Bassino took over the reins of the giant with leaps and bounds, winning both events this weekend in the Slovenian town of Kranjska Gora, without giving her competitors a chance. "

After her victory on Saturday after a success in both rounds, Bassino, second in the first act Sunday at 30 / 100th from the American Mikaela Shiffrin, achieved a perfect second series, which allowed her to catch up again and to climb to the top of the podium, completed by the Swiss Michelle Gisin (at 66 / 100th) and the Slovenian Meta Hrovat (at 73 / 100th).

Second in the race the day before, the French Tessa Worley placed 5th Sunday at 1 sec 25 / 100th and confirms her renewal, even if she may regret two small faults - one in each heat - which prevented her from aiming upper.

On the icy track of Kranjska Gora, where the event was relocated due to the lack of snow in Maribor, in the north-east of the country, Bassino showed a consistency that all of his competitors lacked.

Starting with Shiffrin, finally sixth in the event, from whom the winner of the day took over third place overall.

"It's like a dream that I can't believe", confided the 24-year-old skier, moved to tears, who widens the gap at the head of the giant, with 128 points ahead of Gisin and 150 on his compatriot Federica Brignone.

Conversely, Brignone was the big loser of the day after leaving the track in the second round, party to the fault to try to catch up and do better than his 12th place (at 1 sec 93 / 100th) in the first.

Gisin, who had never been on a giant podium before his third place on Saturday, therefore took the opportunity to pass him, doing even better than the day before.

In the overall standings, the Swiss came closer to 60 points behind leader Petra Vlhova, who has 715 in total after her 10th place on Sunday (4th Saturday).

So consistent since the start of the season, the Slovak has seemed physically tough, unlike the Slovenian Meta Hrovat, who did it again last season by placing on the podium at home.

Coralie Frasse-Combet, the other Frenchwoman entered on Sunday, finished 20th at 5 sec 14 / 100th.

The next meeting will take place from January 20 to 24 in Crans-Montana, with a busy program: in addition to the two descents initially planned for Friday and Saturday, the Swiss resort will also host one of the two super-Gs of the season canceled due to weather conditions in early December in St. Moritz.
