Berlin (dpa / bb) - Three young men threatened, hit and injured two plainclothes police in Berlin-Pankow.

The police officer and his colleague wanted to check the trio in Paracelsusstrasse early Saturday morning, the officers announced.

The men are said to have quarreled with a 19-year-old shortly before.

When the plainclothes officer spoke to a 17-year-old from the group, he is said to have hit her on the head with a bottle.

His 18-year-old companion is said to have beaten her colleague on the strip.

The third from the trio also interfered and threatened the security forces, it said.

When the policeman fought back with pepper spray, he fled and escaped.

His two companions were arrested with police reinforcements.

Before that, they are said to have insulted the officials.

An alcohol check showed more than 1.5 per thousand in both.

The security forces found a bag in which marijuana is suspected in the 17-year-old.

The two injured police officers were forced to retire and received outpatient care in the hospital.
