In Paris, several thousand people demonstrated in peace against the proposed "global security" law.

Other gatherings also took place in many cities, including Nantes, Lille, and Strasbourg.

The bill, already passed at first reading in the National Assembly, must be examined in March in the Senate.

In Paris, the demonstrators headed towards the Place de la Bastille.

The rally took place calmly, without major incident, before the police evacuated the square around 5 p.m.

The situation only got a little tense at the start of the journey when the police intervened to prevent "the holding of a rave party near the event", according to the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin.

According to the police headquarters, the organizers were fined and had sound equipment confiscated.

Thank you to the police for their mobilization everywhere in France today.

"We feel that there is a safe turn of the screw"

In the crowd, François had come to protest again against article 24 aimed at limiting the dissemination of images of police officers, and carried a sign with the writing: "Masked or uncovered, without freedom, we will not spend the winter".

"We are really restricting people's freedoms", he denounces at the microphone of Europe 1. And to continue: "We can see that in recent years, filming what the police did was a bit the only way to defend oneself against police violence. But here, we feel that there is a safe turn of the screw, and rather than trying to fix things, we prefer to hide, to put a blindfold on eyes, so that we don't have the right to report what is happening. "

Other demonstrations also took place in several cities of France, and "chirps" of the "free parties" movement had decided to join the movement "for the right to culture" and against the "disproportionate repression" launched after the rave of Lieuron (Ille-et-Vilaine) which brought together 2,400 people at the New Year.

They were particularly numerous at the start of the demonstration in Nantes behind banners such as "we are all organizers of raves" or "The State assassinates: lives, cultures, freedoms".

The police reported three arrests after "throwing fireworks and glass bottles at the police".

In Strasbourg many "teufeurs" were part of a procession of more than 500 people.

In Lille also the parade had an air of technoparade, under heavy falling snow.

The text must be examined in March in the Senate

In total, nearly 80 rallies "for the right to information, against police violence, for the freedom to demonstrate and against mass surveillance" took place in the country.

These "freedom marches" took place at the call of the coordination of associations and unions mobilized against this text, which notably restricts the dissemination of images of the police.

This coordination brings together associations such as the Human Rights League and Amnesty, as well as numerous unions and associations, notably journalists and directors.

The bill, already passed at first reading in the National Assembly, must be examined in March in the Senate.
