American fashion giant Ralph Lauren on Friday ended its partnership with golfer Justin Thomas, who launched a homophobic curse last week.

The world number 3 apologized the next day for his "terrible" and "inexcusable" word, recorded by a television, but in a statement released Friday, the American brand believes that it cannot be associated with such behavior "contrary to values" of the group.

The 27-year-old American swore homophobic after a missed putt at the Hawaii Tournament of Champions counting towards the North American Tour (PGA), sparking an outcry on social media.

"We believe in the dignity of all human beings, regardless of their age, race, gender, ethnic group, political affiliation or sexual orientation," says Ralph Lauren, who says he is "discouraged by Mr. Thomas' recent comments, which are totally contrary to our values ".

"While we recognize that he apologized and acknowledged the gravity of his words, he is a paid ambassador for the brand and his actions contradict the inclusive culture we strive to promote," the statement said.

Justin Thomas, who won the PGA Championship in 2017, finished third in the Hawaii tournament, which he won in 2020.
