January 16, 2021 Visit to prison by his girlfriend for Patrick Zaki, the student of the University of Bologna detained in Cairo since February last year, to whom the Bologna city council unanimously recognized honorary citizenship on Monday.

This was reported by the Facebook site "Patrick free", explaining that during the visit Patrick said he was "very excited and extremely grateful" for the recognition, adding that he can't wait to return to Bologna and his University.

For tomorrow, January 17, a new hearing is set for the renewal of Zaki's detention.

The 29-year-old researcher, who was attending a European master's degree in Bologna, was arrested in Cairo on February 7 - with charges ranging from terrorism to subversive propaganda - and has since been in the ordeal of continuous renewals of pre-trial detention despite incessant international mobilization in his favor.

A banner in memory of Giulio Regeni and to ask for Patrik Zaki's release was spread this morning outside the balcony of Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria in Florence.

"On the eve of the new hearing in the trial against Zaki - said Mayor Nardella - we renew the Government's request for commitment and seriousness in this difficult and dramatic affair. The young researcher detained in Egypt must soon be free".
