January 16, 2021A 20-year-old girl contracted the virus with the English variant, in the province of Vercelli, who returned last December 20 from England.
But there is also another case.
This is the first case, in Piedmont, of the English variant of the Sars-CoV-2 virus.
"This is the demonstration that with our diagnostic tests we are able to intercept all the known variants of the pandemic virus", comments the councilor for applied research Covid of the Piedmont Region, Matteo Marnati.
The discovery is the result of the collaboration between the Amedeo di Savoia Hospital and the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta.
"The prevention activity has worked well, allowing immediate identification of the patient", adds Marnati.
The first analysis was made on 9 tests, of which 3 gave, respectively, the result of an English variant, one being evaluated and the third would belong to a variant already known, circulating in Europe, but which would not be particularly serious.
The potential for sequencing analysis is 96 samples per week, up to a maximum of 192 samples, with a response time of 5-6 days.
