Halle (dpa / sa) - At the end of the modernization work, the rail traffic at the main station in Halle was completely shut down.

From four in the morning on Saturday, the east side of the station was closed, as the train announced.

The closures are to be lifted on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Until then, according to Deutsche Bahn, travelers will have to prepare for diversions, cancellations and replacement bus services in both the S-Bahn and regional and long-distance services.

As early as January 14, large parts of the tracks at the station were closed.

The timetable has been thinned out significantly.

In long-distance traffic, the ICE line between Frankfurt and Berlin will be diverted via Leipzig main station.

The ICE, which runs between Munich and Hamburg, will be diverted from Erfurt, so that there will be no stop at the main station in Halle.

The shops in the station are not affected by the closures, emphasized the railway.

Some of the trading facilities remained closed anyway due to the Corona regulation.

Local grocery stores and drug stores were not affected by the lockdown.

With the commissioning of platforms 1, 2 and 3 on January 17th, after more than six years, Deutsche Bahn wants to complete the renovation and modernization work at the main station.

Thus, the station is made fit for the next 30 to 40 years, said station manager Karsten Kammler recently.

No further closures at the main station are expected in the foreseeable future.
