Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Two people were injured in an apartment fire in Magdeburg. As the police announced on Saturday, the fire broke out on Saturday morning in the apartment of an apartment building on Mertensstrasse. The burning apartment was unoccupied at the time. Emergency services rescued a 30-year-old resident via a turntable ladder, as a fire department spokesman said. The man and another resident who managed to save themselves through the stairwell were taken to the hospital on suspicion of smoke inhalation. The residents of the other six apartments were able to get themselves to safety. The cause of the fire was initially unknown. According to a spokesman for the police, however, third-party fault cannot yet be ruled out. According to the fire brigade, there had been a fire in the apartment a few days earlier. The damage to property is estimated at 50,000 euros. According to the police spokesman, three of the apartments are no longer habitable.
